Can i melt my wax on a stove?

So my friend got me this thing of wax and mistakenly read that you COULD use it in the microwave. so i open the package and see that its NOT microwaveable. we cant take it back because its already open and i dont wanna spend 20$ on a melter pot so i was wondering if like using a stove would kinda be the same technique. like just putting it in a pan and then putting it on the stove would work. any ideas?
