Do oil additives such as Lucas polymers and Slick 50 help or hinder old engines?

Lucas might help, but if your expecting a miracle, it's not the answer. When metal breaks down (piston rings) they are gone & nothing helps except a rebuild. Slick 50 has never been accepted for any reason except to waste money.
