Does anyone have experience with HF antennas on yachts? I am considering an antenna that uses the back-stay.?
The usual set-up is a back-stay sloper insulated top and bottom and fed via a tuner to the bottom end. I am seeking information about discarding the top insulator and using the mast and steel hull as a loop antenna. The yacht is 42 ft at the waterline and has a steel deck. The bottom of the back-stay is split to tension at each side of the transom, and the pushpit is cluttered with solar panel, wind generator as well as an inflatable tender. At present there is no insulator on the back-stay, so it would have to be fitted above the pulley block that applies the tension. Any thoughts?
