Are names of other deities used as profanity?

Because I'm curious as to why so many people use names of the Judeo-Christian god as such. Perhaps I'm ignorant and paying too much attention to an exclusively Western phenomenon? And please, let's not have anyone arguing semantics with me. I know you can't curse something that doesn't exist, but if you believed it existed, couldn't you curse it, then?
